Technical Superintendent (Bulk Carrier Fleet)

Job Purpose
The Technical Superintendent is responsible for the overall technical management and operational efficiency of a fleet of bulk carriers. Working from the Owner’s Office, the role ensures vessels are maintained to the highest standards of safety, performance, and regulatory compliance. The Superintendent will coordinate maintenance, repairs, dry-docking, and inspections while providing technical support to vessel crews.

Your Key Responsibilities and tasks will be related to:
Technical Management & Maintenance:
  • Overseeing the technical operations of assigned bulk carriers.
  • Ensuring timely maintenance, repairs, and dry-docking.
  • Monitoring vessel performance and implement optimization measures.
  • Troubleshooting technical issues and provide engineering solutions.
Compliance & Safety:
  • Ensuring all vessels comply with international regulations (ISM, ISPS, MARPOL, Class, Flag State).
  • Conducting regular inspections and audits to maintain high safety standards.
  • Collaborating with classification societies and regulatory bodies.
Budgeting & Cost Control:
  • Preparing and manage vessel maintenance budgets.
  • Controlling operational costs while ensuring quality and efficiency.
  • Negotiating with suppliers and service providers for cost-effective solutions.
Dry-Docking & Repairs:
  • Planning and overseeing vessel dry-docking, major repairs, and refits.
  • Liaising with shipyards, contractors, and vendors to ensure work is completed on time and within budget.
  • Evaluating and approve repair specifications and technical reports.
Crew Coordination: 
  • Working closely with vessel crews to ensure proper maintenance and technical operations.
  • Providing technical guidance and training to ship staff as needed.
  • Liaising with chartering, operations, and procurement teams to ensure smooth vessel operations.
Contact information
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Marine Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience as a Technical Superintendent (Bulk Carriers preferred).
  • Sailing experience as a Chief Engineer (advantageous).
  • Strong knowledge of ship systems, maintenance, and repair processes.
  • Familiarity with international maritime regulations and industry best practices.
  • Willingness to travel for vessel inspections and dry-docking.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple vessels and work under pressure.
